Officials from 15 school area districts learned last week that an on-line professional
development program from the federal Department of Education has been approved.
This is good news for teachers in the state’s 501 school districts who face
a June 30 deadline to meet a mandate for professional development credits.
An information meeting was held Dec. 14 at the Central Susquehanna Intermediate
Unit offices to announce the recent development.
According to Dr. Dale Baker of the state’s Department of Education, 60 percent
of the state’s teachers have already completed the requirements, and most of
the rest are on track to meet the deadline. Less than five percent may not make
the cutoff date, he said.
